The Why Worry Generation

This generation is definitely the no worry genertaion and if we werent i would say that there is something wrong with this generation. As mentioned briefly at the end of the article, people say we have pumped up egos. This is 100% true and there is absolutely no denying it. Our parents tell us we can do anything we want. Also punishment has cchanged in society. Once parents would beat their children, now they are grounded (maybe) or else punishment is not doled out at all. This gives what could be seen as enabling because this generation can do no wrong (NOT). Then teachers at school (Ms. Diana included) say how we are so great and if we set our minds to it, we can accomplish anything. It's no wonder this generation doesn't care if they lose their jobs(stress wise) because they've been brainwashed to believe that everything will be OK. This isn't necessarily a good road to travel down because this belief makes it so that when they get into a bad spot, their drive and determination will not kick in because they think that it is all going to be all right. There are some very poor ideas presented as well. One person suggested that the stress induced childhood such as columbine and 9/11 has made it easier to cope or there is a higher tolerance to it. This is so false. It's impossible to make that correlation because it's presented in an evolution way. It's not acquired from experiences in childhood. Even if those who experienced it were children they could be no older than 15-20 because the range presented in the article is up to 29 and columbine not only is not really a child per say, they definitely to old to adapt their entire lives to cope better with stress.

  1. Hmmmm.... maybe I need to ammend my in-class comments. What I tried to say (perhaps unsuccessfully...) is that there are wonderful things about your generation (there are! there are!), but the comments weren't all praise-worthy... :-)

  2. I think every generation is generally analyzed in the same way. Today's generation is seen as being just as carefree and without worry as the baby boomers were seen in the 1960s. It's definitely circular.
